About

The PMF Foundation was established in 2008 as a private philanthropic foundation.

We specialise in supporting organisations and projects that intervene early, and champion capacity building and self-reliance in the people they provide support for. We value organisations and individuals who take a long-term strategic view in their approach to resolving the issues at hand.

At the heart of the organisations we support are innovative and dedicated people who we believe can make lasting and powerful change in their field of choice.

Our Mission

To support and empower organisations and initiatives within the Education, Environment, First Nations, and Medical Research sectors that are dedicated to creating lasting change through early intervention, capacity building, and fostering self-reliance. Through our donations, we provide the necessary support to facilitate strategic, long term solutions that drive meaningful change in the communities and fields they serve.

Our Vision

To create a world where organisations and communities are empowered to address their challenges independently and sustainably, fostering long-term solutions that improve lives across Education, Environment, First Nations, and Medical Research sectors. We envision a future where every initiative we support thrives, making a lasting and transformative impact on the global community.

PMF Objectives

  • Support Early Intervention: Provide financial and strategic support to organisations focused on early intervention.

  • Promote Capacity Building: Strengthen the ability of organisations to become self-reliant by funding initiatives that build long-term internal capacity and sustainability.

  • Foster Financial Sustainability: Empower initiatives to achieve financial independence, ensuring they can continue their impactful work without reliance on PMF funding.

  • Encourage Long-term Solutions: Back strategic, long-term solutions that create meaningful, lasting change in the communities and sectors we serve.

  • Advocate for Systemic Change: Support initiatives that not only address immediate needs but also work to create systemic, transformative change within their fields.

  • Measure and Amplify Impact: Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our support, ensuring we drive positive change and enhance the scalability of successful initiatives.

  • Encourage Collaboration: Foster a culture of collaboration by encouraging like-minded organisations and projects to work together. By combining resources, knowledge, and efforts, these partnerships can create a greater collective impact, driving innovation and amplifying the reach of their work.

Funding Principles

  1. Prevention: We prioritise funding organisations and projects that focus on preventative measures, addressing issues before they arise.

  2. Enable: We aim to support organisations and projects that require financial assistance to take their operations to the next level, empowering their success.

  3. Trust: Much of our funding is trust-based philanthropy, which we believe encourages leaders within the organisations and projects to autonomously allocate resources to the most critical areas of need, accelerating positive outcomes.

  4. Innovation: We prioritise funding organisations that think creatively and develop projects that address needs in new and improved ways.

  5. Collaboration: We encourage like-minded organisations and projects to join forces, leveraging greater reach, knowledge, and power to achieve a common goal both effectively and efficiently. This is true for both the granters and grantees.
