For more than 55 years, Environment Victoria has helped Victorians protect the places they love and shape a fairer, cleaner and more sustainable future. What began in 1969 as a single campaign to protect Little Desert in Western Victoria has evolved into a community of over 100,000 supporters, 50 grassroots member groups and an Action Network of 4,000 engaged volunteers who respond to our calls to action.

We were among the first organisations in Victoria to mobilise supporters for climate action, helping secure some of the strongest climate policies in the country — including commitments to close Victoria’s coal power stations by 2035, 95% renewable energy target by 2035, large-scale battery storage, and all-electric new buildings from 2027.

Thanks to support from the PMF Foundation, Environment Victoria is working with local groups Geelong Sustainability and ACF Geelong to delay the proposed VOPAK gas import terminal in Port Phillip Bay.

At a time when rapid electrification is both necessary and achievable, we cannot allow the gas industry to lock Victoria into more gas dependence. The proposal also threatens the Bellarine Peninsula's Ramsar-listed wetlands, putting migratory seabirds and marine wildlife at risk.
