Geelong Foodshare
Geelong Foodshare is a one-to-many organisation committed to strengthening community food security across Geelong, the Barwon South West Region, and Golden Plains. With more than 190 volunteers, it operates two Social Supermarkets and delivers food to agencies, making healthy food accessible to thousands each week.
Its work spans multiple initiatives: rescuing surplus food and feeding more than 20,000 people every week; expanding last-mile distribution into areas such as Golden Plains Shire, where food insecurity is especially high; and running Social Supermarkets that combine dignified access to food with education. Geelong Foodshare also listens closely to community needs through cultural inclusion tools and offers food vouchers that give clients choice, access, and dignity.
With the support of the PMF Foundation, Geelong Foodshare is launching its Food Education and Water Stewardship Project, transforming part of Barwon Water’s Station Street carpark into a vibrant urban food garden. Using innovative Food Cubes irrigated with recycled water, the project will create hands-on learning opportunities for children, young people, and families - particularly those from disadvantaged, multicultural, and First Nations backgrounds. By teaching skills in growing and cooking healthy food, building nutrition knowledge, and modelling sustainable water use, the initiative will reduce reliance on emergency food relief and empower families to make healthier choices for the long term.
In all its efforts, Geelong Foodshare is not just responding to immediate need but working to change the system - building sustainable social change, improving food security, empowering communities, and enabling a healthier future for more than 20,000 people every week.
